Along Came A Spider ... (Robinson)
01/10/2003 Source: Jessica Martin

The Galactic Senate: polls & voting for October 2003.

Nothing gladdens our heart more than to see democracy in action in the science fiction and fantasy world. If you feel the same, dear user, then here's our current and past online polls, as voted for by many a fine fellow (you too can vote, but choose wisely) ...

Along Came A Spider ... (Robinson)

After attending this year's WorldCon in Canada, guest of honor SF author Spider Robinson gave the SF genre a well-aimed kick up the pants, demanding to know why are our imaginations retreating from science and space and into fantasy? But do you agree with Spider? Are we on the road to ruin?

Vote now ...

Yep, Spider speaks the truth. The science fiction genre is indeed becoming the barren wasteland he describes; inhabited by fantasy-by-numbers quest books and nomadic tie-in novels for Trek and Alias ... with just the occasional spring of SF goodness scattered across this literary desert.

No, it's Nonsense. To quote the lyrics from the song 'Everybody's Free to Wear Sunscreen': Accept certain inalienable truths: Prices will rise. Politicians will philander. You, too, will get old. And when you do, you'll fantasize that when you were young, prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders. This is just the science fiction version of that.
