Do Jedi Knights go to ASCII-FI Heaven?
01/08/1999 Source: Stephen Hunt

Sometimes in our trawls of the Net to bring you the finest science fiction & fantasy offerings, we come across something so strange, so brilliant, it just weirds out the entire Nest crew.

Well, Simon Jansen has outdone himself. After viewing his web site, we had to hospitalise two of our staff, and a third member has been left a gibbering wreck who only responds to R2D2-like whistles.

Why?

Trot on over to http://www.asciimation.co.nz/ for the original Star Wars movie redone as an ASCII animation movie.

We shit you not! Simon is aiming to animate the complete Star Wars trilogy as ASCII art. Currently, he has got as far as the scene where the Millenium Falcon gets sucked into the death star - and new chapters are promised as he does them.

A waste of time? Certainly.

But do not underestimate the power of seeing an ASCII C3PO jiggling over the Tatooine sands, young Skywalker.

We suspect you will need to view the site using Bill Gate's Microsoft Internet Explorer, as trying to view the thing in Netscape Navigator crashed our PC.

Proof positive, if any other were needed, that this site is indeed a tool of the dark side of the Force.
