Super author Robert Heinlein talks from the dead
01/11/1999 Source: Jessica Martin

In the Crowsnest's voyages across cyberspace in the search to bring you the finest science fiction and fantasy, we have come across many an odd encounter.

Buy Starship Troopers in the USA - or Buy Starship Troopers in the UK

But never before, have we heard an author talk from beyond the grave - let alone one of Bob 'Starship Troopers' Heinlein's great stature.

Alas, we were not reckoning with the might and ingenuity of RAH (the Robert Heinlein Home page). Well, rah rah for those chappies over here for bringing you the gems below.

For those youngsters among you for whom the name Mighty Bob means little, RH was a famous author of the 60s and 70s, best known for Stranger in a Strange Land - which went down a storm among the trippy hippy crowd.

Personally, we liked Friday, a space opera he wrote in the 80s - it was his finest work. RH was also rather right-wing in his political beliefs & of a libertarian persuasion.

Like you couldn't tell from Starship Troopers (the philosophy came across better in the book, rather than the Nazi imagery thang the film portrayed).

These sound samples are in WAV format, so most PCs running Windows should be okay (especially if you're surfing with Explorer).

You'll also find an article in Adobe PDF format entitled: The Nature of Federal Service in Starship Troopers ready for you to download.

The site's got lots of other articles and content, and is a real goldmine for literary SF fans who weren't too stoned in the last three decades for Heinlein's works to pass them by.
