Do not, under any circumstances, attempt to go anywhere near Brian Froud's house. As this book will testify, it has been over-run by goblins and you really don't want to take any of these beasties home with you cos they are sods to get rid of if ever.
This book is essentially a Codex or what I would call a bestiary of the goblins that are known to frequent our reality. Politically Correct this book isn't. Goblins are the reason for all kinds of things that are going wrong about the house and are not under your control. A loose thread? Goblin. Bad smells? Goblin. Missing property, especially if it's easily transportable. Goblin. You can go stark-goblin-mad at this rate.
 
Although I have to confess that if you're buying this book expecting to see great works of art from Brian Froud's brush like his book 'Faeries', this might not live up to your expectations and you should certainly look it through first of all. The pictures are very much in earth and green colours and are there for amusement and mischief more than appreciation. Ari Berk's text does an admirable task of filling in with every bit of info you need to know about these creatures although I think their goblin assistant and captive, Gargle, should have had a book credit and been allowed to embellish the text more.
 
We've been long over-due to see another Brian Froud book and I'm hoping that this is the start of more books to come. Excuse me while I check the shadowy corners of my house with a candle. It suddenly dawned on me that Froud only lives a county away from my own and the last thing I want is a goblin infestation here. It's a good thing I don't use a teasmade.
