It looks like I'm concluding my whistle-stop tour of the 'Dragonriders Of Pern' books here. This particular book is a special edition combining three earlier short stories, 'The Smallest Dragonboy', 'The Girl Who Heard Dragons' and 'Runner Of Twain', with a new story 'Never The Twain'.
Considering that to own the first three meant picking up three different anthologies, having them all under one cover seems like a good idea. Making it into a decorative book, illustrated by Tom Kidd, should make it a good choice to Pern completests. Except for the third story, all the other stories cover the ascension of teens to bonding with dragons.
McCaffrey must hit a good nerve with most of her readers because there is always something of awe in her writing about this event no matter how many times she's covered this in the past. The third story, deals with Tenna, a character illustrating the background detail of Pern where runners run between outposts delivering messages. It's like an Olympics with messages.
I doubt if this book will be released as a paperback edition, especially as the copy I read was released two years ago, so if you want to ensure you have this book in your collection, I wouldn't tarry too long.
